ABOUT US
The International Detailing Association (IDA) had its beginnings with the formation of the Professional Detailing Association (PDA) in 1989. At that time a group of detail industry suppliers got together in Rosemont, Illinois to discuss the feasibility of forming a detail industry association.
It was agreed that such an endeavor was worth while, and those suppliers in attendance agreed to put up their first years' dues, in advance, to provide seed money to start the association.
Formal papers and bylaws were drawn up and properly registered, and within 3 months the PDA was a legal entity, an official association for the detail industry.
As membership grew, nominations were taken for members of the Board of Directors and elections held, and the first PDA Board was elected in 1990.
Under the leadership of this first, and subsequent Boards, the PDA membership grew to over 500 from all segments of the industry, and accomplished the following:
- Published a quarterly magazine, The Detailer
- Published a monthly membership newsletter, The Detail Dialogue
- Conducted over 15 Detail Seminars across the country
- Formed two regional PDA Chapters
- Published a glossary of detailing terms
- Conducted the Detail Educational Seminar at the Car Wash Association Expo.
- Sponsored the Detailing Pavillion at the Car Wash Association Expo.
- Became the recognized source of information for the detail industry, all over the world
In 1994, the PDA Board made a decision to have the ICA association management company provide such services for the Professional Detailing Association on a trial basis.
At the end of that year it was decided that it would be in the best interests of the PDA to merge with the ICA, and in 1995 the PDA ceased to exist and became an entity of the ICA.
This experiment did not work; and as a result all that was accomplished by the PDA for the detailing industry was lost.
Now more than 10 years later, some of the same suppliers got together to determine if there was a need to re-establish a detailing association. It was agreed that there was a need and a Formation Committee was established.
The IDA is in a growth period, acquiring membership from all segments of the industry; operators, suppliers, distributors and consultants. A Board of Directors has been elected by the general membership, and has been working on several things, including a Detailing Certification Program and an Environmental Program. In addition, the IDA is conducting detail seminars in conjunction with several trade shows.
This first Board of Directors has set the goals and objectives of the IDA, and is moving forward rapidly.
If you are serious about the detail business and committed to the detailing industry you are urged to join now to be in on the ground floor of this great venture.
The IDA needs leaders, people committed to the betterment of the detailing industry; so as we say, if you are serious about detailing you should join the International Detailing Association.
IDA MISSION
The purpose of this association is to serve and promote the interests of the detail industry; to serve as a rallying point for collection action by individual operators and regional chapters of detail business owners on problems affecting the industry; and to do whatever is necessary, proper, and legitimate for the common good and welfare of the detail industry.
